About Me

Hi! I’m Sophia

I’m a recent college graduate with experience in congressional communications and digital media. I’m interested in using social media and press work to help make policy clearer, more accessible, and easier to engage with.

Education

I studied International Relations and History at the University of Iowa, with a minor in Political Science, because I was interested in how policy decisions are made and how they affect people’s everyday lives. My coursework emphasized research, writing, and building clear, persuasive arguments, skills that now directly inform my work in press and digital communications, where translating complex issues for broad audiences is essential.

I later earned a Master of Science in International Politics from Trinity College Dublin, graduating with Distinction, to deepen my understanding of global politics and policy. I was especially drawn to the program’s focus on analytical writing and applied research, which strengthened my ability to quickly synthesize dense material and communicate nuanced ideas clearly and concisely in a fast-paced communications environment.

Career

My interest in communications started early. I grew up taking art classes and closely following politics and current events. I became especially interested in how visual design and messaging shape the way people understand ideas and public issues.

That interest grew through hands-on experience. I interned with the City of Iowa City, where I supported day-to-day operations and helped develop social media messaging for public engagement. During college, I created social media content for student organizations and campus events, while also freelancing on digital content and design projects for personal events and small businesses.

As I continued my studies in international relations and political science, I moved into congressional communications. I am currently a Communications Intern in a congressional office, where I support press operations and digital media by drafting press materials, tracking media coverage, and creating platform-specific content in a fast-paced policy environment.

Each of these roles has reinforced my interest in communications that combine creativity, strategy, and public service. I’m excited to continue building a career at the intersection of communications and policy, with a focus on making information clear, accessible, and engaging.
